The Edberg Seminar

The Edberg Seminar of 2011 continued a tradition 20 years in the making. This year, the seminar was expanded into an environmental festival, with an entire week of activities throughout Karlstad, Sweden. The seminar also drew attention to Karlstad being named Global City of the Year through a project with the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency, Sida. This distinction in turn came on the heels of Karlstad being the country’s first Resilience City, in cooperation with the international organization ICLEI.

This year, previous Edberg Award Recipients revisited the Seminar, people who through the award stipend have gotten the opportunity to educate themselves, reach new levels in their occupations, and who have become important actors in sustainable development all over the world.

Throughout the seminar days, the Edberg Foundation gathered participants from schools, organizations, businesses, and government organizations to so-called Edberg Dialogues on important and relevant topics.

These Edberg Dialogues were presented in cooperation with local organizations and businesses; national organization and government agencies are both participating and supporting, and Sida was the main partner.

  • Methods for teaching sustainable development
  • Climate and safety
  • Sustainable cities
  • Sustainable development business and innovation
  • The information society and the future

The Edberg Seminar also presented GreenScreen, an environment and sustainable development-themed film festival.

On October 24, United Nations Day, the Edberg Foundation held its gala evening with the edberg address, entertainment, and the presentation of the 2011 Edberg Award.
